What's going on - Week of 10/6 - 10/12

Join a 5k/10k for a good cause this Saturday - in costume!


Each week I will be publishing 2 posts - Mondays will be articles and reviews. Thursdays will be a "What's Going On" feature, in which I highlight upcoming events and ticket deadlines.

Try out something different this fall:

10/6 - Thursday

3:30PM - Thursdays through 11/10 you can bring your toddler to a creative movement class (ages 2-4yrs) at Nickel City Dance and Fitness Center.

4:30PM - If you're a skater (or want to be one), check out the grand opening of the new Niagara Frontier Skate Park in Niagara Falls NY.

6:30PM - Weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, Devi Bollywood will be holding their mixed-level Bollywood Dance class at 6:30PM, and a Thursday night Bollywood/Bhangra Cardio Blast class at 7:45PM.

7PM - Head to Verve Dance Studio for the second week of their Foundations of House hip hop dancing class (running through 10/20). $15 drop in rate per class.

7PM - Weekly on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, you can take a Hatha Yoga class at the Buffalo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy - all levels welcome, $10/class.

7PM - Every week you can take a Line Dance class at Nashville's II on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 7PM - only $5.

7:30PM - Every Thursday you can check out a Booty Work class at 7:30, and a Club Dance Aerobics class at 8:30 taught by instructors from Musicality Central at Future Dance Center in Hamburg. $10/class.

10/7 - Friday

10AM - Every Friday morning is an aerial yoga class with Aerial Dance Buffalo at the ALT Theatre in Buffalo. Drop in price is $18. For more information click here. Preregistration is recommended as these classes fill fast.

2PM - Take a hike at Chestnut Ridge.

5PM - Familiar with inline or roller skates? Join some of the Queen City Roller Girls for a casual skate in Delaware Park around the loop.

5PM - Every Friday is a non-contact kickboxing class called Friday Night Fights, held at HUBFiT Studio in downtown Buffalo - $10 drop-in rate.

5:30PM - Say cheers to the weekend with a Rev Happy Hour at the Foundry Suites Lounge.

6PM - Take on the hill at Margaret Louise Park one last time with Fit Like a Gladiator's BLT class (butt, legs, and thighs). $5 drop in, or $4 if you bring a friend.

7PM - Weekly on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, you can take a Hatha Yoga class at the Buffalo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy - all levels welcome, $10/class.

7PM - Join Backwoods Cloggers' director Bekka Gunner for beginner clogging classes every first and third Friday of the month for $5 at Nashville's II.

7PM - Join Joywheel Yoga and Wellness for a Glow Flow Yoga class - bring water, a mat & lots of positive energy! Make sure to get your ticket ahead of time.

10PM - Get a groove going at Sabor Latin Night and take a lesson with Fanny and Calvin - only $5, 21 and up.

10:30PM - For more Latin dance try a Kizomba class at Epic on Elmwood.

10/8 - Saturday 

8:30AM - Weekly on Saturday mornings, Devi Bollywood will be holding a Bollywood/Bhangra Cardio Blast class at 8:30AM, and a Vinyasa Yoga class at 9:15AM.

10AM - Head to Santosha Yoga in Williamsville for a 6 week beginner/intermediate hatha yoga class with focus on posture and pranayama.

10AM - Bring your bike up to Niagara Falls State Park for a group bike ride to Devil's Hole State Park and back - pre-register with 716-282-5154.

10:30AM - Take a hike at Beaver Meadow Audubon Center.

11AM - Canalside's ice-rink will, for one day only, be turning into a roller rink! Bring your own skates, or rent a pair for $5.

12PM -  Concerned about the pending zombie apocalypse and want to learn to defend yourself from a distance? Lucky you - CUT in Buffalo will be offering a zombie-themed knife throwing seminar (targets will bleed and "ooze" when struck, so... trigger warning). $20 pre-sale, $30 at the door.

12PM - Challenged by those mysterious lower-arm balances in your yoga practice? Soma Cura Wellness Center in Grand Island will be holding a Vinyasa Arm Balance Workshop to assist you. $25 per workshop in the current series (this is week 2).

2PM - Weekly donation-based Power Yoga of Buffalo - "Karma" class.

2PM - If you're feeling a bit sore and storing tension in your shoulders, you should check out Shakti Yoga's Roll It Out class with therapy balls.

3PM - Perhaps lower arm balances aren't your thing, and you're looking for a workshop for flexibility - OWM Yoga will be using the Great Yoga Wall to assist you with getting your backbend (safely, and using it to alleviate back pain).

7PM - Every week you can take a Line Dance class at Nashville's II on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 7PM - only $5.

10/9 - Sunday

8:30AM - Walk for a good cause - the Monster Scramble is a Halloween-themed 5k/10k fundraiser with an eye on finding the cure for the debilitating disease that is Multiple Sclerosis.

9AM - Head to GAP at the McKinley Mall to Rockout and Workout for free with our friends from Garage Fitness Studio - please wear pink in honor of those whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

12:30PM - Oasis Dance will be holding a Hustle dance class (70's style) - pre-registration is $25.

1:30PM - Hike the Lincoln Park Bike Path.

2PM - Learn weaponry in an Okinawan Kobudo class at the defensive arts dojo in Hamburg.

(Sundays tend to be scarce due to the Bills games)

10/10 - Monday

5:30AM - Start every week with Monday morning PiYo with Marcia and Longboards, held at the Lake Erie Seaway Trail facility (indoors). Make sure to register, because this class fills up. 

10AM - Hike Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve.

5:15PM - Interested in taking a ladies only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class? Buffalo United Martial Arts Academy at Riverworks holds one every Monday night, and the first few classes are free! Bring a friend!

6PM - Go for a run at the Amherst Bike Path

6PM - Take a beginner Vinyasa Yoga class at the School House Wellness Center in Lockport. 

6:30PM - Weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, Devi Bollywood will be holding their mixed-level Bollywood Dance class at 6:30PM, and a Thursday night Bollywood/Bhangra Cardio Blast class at 7:45PM. 

7:30PM - Shakti Yoga will hold a weekly Vinyasa by Donation yoga class

10/11 - Tuesday

10AM - Take a hike through Bill Wilson Park.

7PM - Every Tuesday you can take a Hatha Yoga class at the Buffalo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

7PM - As the weather gets cooler, AcroYoga Buffalo's AcroJams will be moving indoors to the SolRise Farm and Cultural Arts Center in Buffalo.

10/12 - Wednesday

6PM - Try out a weekly Hip Hop for starters class at Musicality Central (at Studio 990) - $10/class, and there are more advanced classes available if you are so inclined.

7PM - Learn some Line Dances at Nashville's II in Williamsville each Wednesday. (lessons, and free-dancing).

7PM - Enjoy a Noche de Salsa at Pucho Olivencia - lesson at 7PM, followed by social dancing. $5 admission.
